It all started with Phoebe Hyde.

Phoebe Nobbs Hyde was the last member of her ancestral maternal (Shepherd) family to live in this heritage house. It was her dream for Greenwood to become a museum, and she made arrangements in her will for this to happen.

In 1996, two years after her death, a board of directors was formed to manage the Greenwood Centre for Living History. Our first executive director was Bill Young.

In 2026 we are celebrating our 30th year as a museum!
