SUMMARY:StoryFest 2023: Maureen Mayhew
DESCRIPTION:MAUREEN MAYHEW is a family doctor\, a clinical professor at UBC\, and a certified leadership coach. She graduated from Hudson High School (’78) and then from McGill in ’86 and has spent three decades providing primary care and leading public health programs across Canada\, Asia and Africa. She currently works for the BC Physician Health Program. A life-changing Doctors Without Borders mission to Afghanistan in 2000 inspired her to spend the next decade supporting Afghans to rebuild their shattered healthcare system\, and to improve maternal and child health in remote settings. Thank you for your comprehension. \nLESLEY CHESTERMAN began her career in the 1990s working as a pastry chef in Montreal as well as in France. She spent another three years teaching both professional and amateur cooks before starting out in food journalism. In 1997\, she began contributing stories to The Gazette’s Food section until 2019 and was the newspaper’s Fine Dining Restaurant Critic for 20 of those years. She released her first best-selling cookbook\, Chez Lesley\, in French in 2020 and followed that up with the English translation\, Make Every Dish Delicious\, two years later. Her newest book in French is Un Week-end Chez Lesley. DESCRIPTION:R.H. THOMSON has appeared in film and theatre across Canada\, as Matthew Cuthbert in Anne With An E\, in the movie Chloe directed by Atom Egoyan\, as Marshall McLuhan in The Message by Jason Sherman and This Was The World by Ellie Moon. As well as being an advocate for the arts\, RH has worked on many history/arts projects. For the First World War Centenary\, he built The World Remembers-Le Monde Se Souvient\, an international commemoration exhibit now installed at the Canadian War Museum –theworldremembers.org. He is a Member of the Order of Canada and was awarded the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement. Epic in its scope and incredibly intimate in its exploration of lives touched by the tragedy of war\, BY THE GHOST LIGHT is a truly original book that will challenge the way we approach our history. \nWe wish to thank Maison Rose Boutique Hotel and Hudson Village Theatre for their generous support towards this event. \nTickets are available here or as a cash-only purchase at Que de Bonnes Choses (484-D rue Main\, Hudson). \nR.H.
